These prints and sculptural forms were created for an invitational exhibit ‘Paper Water Wind’ at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s, Schaefer International Gallery.
This body of work, titled ‘Aftermatter’ combines the words ‘aftermath’ and ‘matter’- referring to both material and process. In the case of both, the resin forms as well as the two-dimensional prints, the relief printing process is deliberate and organized consisting of meticulous lines and grid patterns. The prints are then saturated in resin or glue making them unstable and pliable. The moment of manipulation is unpredictable and spontaneous and the material is left to follow its own idiosyncrasies–both processes capturing the moment of their making.
The line and grid patterns within the prints draw on childhood memories…of brightly woven Indian textiles…seemingly affected…floating or crumpled in piles, like wet laundry.
